In April 2020, we received the fantastic news that we have been awarded a Research Support Grant from the Paul Mellon Centre.
This grant will enable Holly Argent (Library Lead) to carry out a period of dedicated research in relevant archives and libraries across the country that will further research into artists associated with the North East.
The focus of this research will be to collate information about women-identifying artists stored in key archives and libraries in the North East of England, including details of artworks, career trajectory and biographical information. This grant will also support visits to art archives and libraries around the rest of the Britain and explore what alternative readings could be drawn from their archival material.
It will also enable us to research archival systems and organisational strategies used to catalogue and care for material relating to the history of women’s art and marginalised histories in Britain, which will support us work towards organising our own catalogue and how it is managed.
Due to the current situation around the global pandemic (Covid-19) the main activities of this research have been put on hold until physical visits to archives are possible.
